About Me

I'm a plant scientist (total geek and proud of it :), animal lover, reader, wife, business co-owner, former optimist, and adorer of randomness. And my favorite color is purple :)

Favorite Music

Anything and everything. But my heart will always belong to 80's music (high school years, you understand...new wave)

Favorite Movies

Blazing Saddles, Arsenic and Old Lace, Milo & Otis, all the Muppet movies, Harold & Maude, ....

Favorite Television

Most of the time I'm watching something on Discovery Channel, History Channel, Learning Channel, IFC, A&E, etc. But other than that I like Meerkat Manor, Scrubs, Project Runway, House (any Black Adder fans out there?), & Southpark, off the top of my head. I really miss shows like Homicide, Vicar of Dibley, Black Adder, ...

Favorite Crafts

When it comes to crafts I am a jack-of-all-trades, master of none :) I love to try stuff out, but I get bored easily.

In my crafty history I've done knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, decoupage, macrame, origami, beading, a very short stint into sewing, and I am sure more I have forgotten.....

Right now it's all about paper. I love paper. Especially papers with beautiful, intricate designs of any origin.

Randomness seems to dominate my paper crafts. I tend to seek out discarded books, magazines, and any interesting paper to recycle into an envelope, postcard, origami box, etc.

I find that once you have taken an image out of its original context, it takes on a whole new meaning. The new meaning is wholly dependent on the life experience of the new recipient. The fun part is that the possibilities of what thought, emotion, or reaction the image may evoke are literally endless. That is what amazes me.

Things that make me smile

eclectic, edgy, quirky, unusual, off-the-beaten-path, modern // humorous, any kind (except toilet humor- I have not been 12 years old for quite a while) // retro, kitch (1970's and earlier. Not the 80's- I was very much a teenager then, so it's all just embarrasing now :) // lip balms, lipgloss, Lip Smackers, etc. // Blank notecards & notepads, stickers, gel pens, used stamps // Going to the thrift store // books // Recycling & giving things a new life or purpose // absolutely anything you think is cool.

Comment: Holy WOW Erin!!! I got lucky to get you as a partner!!! Thanks so much for such a great package! You do very well with making envelopes, I can't really tell they are homemade!!! I too wouldn't be able to make envies out of the things I like either, its great to know you and I have things in common! I love each and every envelope and I like that you noted where each one came from:) Sweeney and the anatomy one are my faves;) Will be hard to send these off!! Also, thanks for the extras too! I love the wreath and I'd love to learn to make one. I've always thought origami was rad but seemed too difficult for my patience, lol. Thanks so much for everything!

Comment: Thanks for the note -- much more interesting than a PC! And you and Ihave the same soapbox. As a former teacher and GS leader, I deplore the trach that masquerades as literature for tween and teen girls -- and I am even less fond of trends like the Bratz dolls, which simply foster the same mentality. Our 2 girls (now 42 and 44) were never allowed to have Barbies because of the blatant consumerism they promote -- they had Madame Alexander girl dolls with realistic pre-teen figures instead. (And they were also easier for Mom to sew for, too!) But it sounds like you made some good choices -- I love Hank the Cowdog! ANd thanks for the tea, the ornament and the origami tips. I don't have a troop anymore, but a friend leads my granddaughter's Brownie troop, and one of my former Senior Scouts has a Jr/Cadette troop, so I will pass the hints along. Happy swapping!
