Hi. I'm Kate, and this is my profile.
I'm currently a senior-level media studies student at Northwestern State University. I'm also the proud wife of a soldier, and a veteran myself.
I'm a Christian, but I consider myself the tolerant and open-minded sort. Life is a journey and everyone comes to their own belief out of their own reckoning. I'm also an NPR listener and vote a very split ticket if you can reconcile those beliefs.
My hobbies usually somehow involve literature, turn-of-last-century medical quackery and cinema.
I love music of all sorts. Progressive Rock from the 70's and 80's especially--but I'm down with being surprised with anything new that is well-executed for its genre generally. Also, any song Trevor Horn has ever produced, and any project Mark Knopfler has played a mean guitar lick on.
I primarily believe that musical expression is one of humanity's greatest art forms--so variety in experience is the key to my enjoyment.
There are too many of these to list--because I'm a bit of a bookish lass.
I enjoy classic literature, non-fiction, and generally tomes of the scholarly sort before I'll enjoy current pop fiction. e.g.: I just downloaded massive amounts of Ovid and Plato to my Kindle. I do enjoy Audrey Neiffenegger immensely though.
I also love cinema. My associates level studies were mainly in film.
My favorites include:
Un Chein Andalou
Metropolis Restored
Taxi Driver
Somewhere In Time
Dragon Seed
The Iron Giant
2001: A Space Odyssey (on 70mm film only)
Inception
Moon
This list is much easier to compile. I have pretty pedestrian tastes when it comes to television. I'll just list a few.
The IT Crowd
Various PBS Programs
Politcal Commentary from all over the spectrum (I study media theory. :D )
Parks and Recreation
Glee
Community
30 Rock
