My name is Lee and we live on the southern tip of Texas about 20 miles from the Mexican border. I have been married for 39 years and have 2 grown children ages 37 and 27. My son works with a major computer company and my daughter is still trying to finish off her master's degree in clinical psychology. None are married so I am not a grandma yet. I am a retired teacher of 36 years. I taught for 33 years and was an instructional coach for 3 years. I am totally enjoying retirement but my days go by so fast.
My husband and I like to go to the South Padre Island on weekends just to get away. It is about 1 1/2 hours away from our home. We walk on the beach and go fishing when we can. It is just so relaxing getting away from everything. It seems that the atmosphere is so different close to the ocean. I have wonderful neighbors at the island who are Winter Texans from different states so I look forward to spending time with them as well. They have great stories to tell and we share recipes with each other.
I don't watch too much television just because I like to stay busy doing other things around the house or with friends. I do however enjoy watching the Hallmark channel on weekends. I love watching the old classic Christmas movies for Christmas is one of my favorite holidays.
I grew up in a very crafty family. My mother would sew and crochet and make quilts. I however never picked up sewing. My brothers do woodwork and also work with metal. My sister and I have a small craft booth that we have had for 10 years as a hobby. We mainly work on teacher items such as altered clips, notepads and decoupage cans for pencil holders. We also sell all kinds of ceramic angels. We like to attach an inspirational poem on our items to hopefully make someone's day a better one. We don't make alot of profit on our items but it keeps us meeting once a month. My sister lives 3 hours away from me so we talk on the phone daily. We only meet once a month to craft and go to restock our booth.
I have always been fascinated with watching videos online and how to create embellishments and ideas for scrap booking. This is how I learned about pocket letters and it totally caught my attention but never had time to do. Now that I am retired, I can focus on working on making embellishments to place on our teacher items and create pocket letters to share.
My favorite stores to shop for craft items are Hobby Lobby and Michael's. I just discovered Tuesday Morning by watching haul videos done by people that craft. They have great prices for their crafts so I am going every Friday morning to see what I can purchase to start creating my craft room. I have been purchasing scrap book paper as well so that I can have a variety to work on the pocket letters and cards.
I have been collecting miniature teapots and tea sets for about 20 years. I have over 75 tea sets and 100 plus teapots. I also have alot of angels which I started to collect when my daughter was young. Another collection I have are M & M items. When I was teaching I went to a thrift store and bought stuffed M & M characters to sit on top of my computers. I thought it would make my room look more colorful and interesting for the students. Well, the students thought I collected M & Ms so they began to bring me all kinds of M & M items including new watches, blankets, playing cards, mugs and everything that had an M & M on it. That is how my collection of M & Ms started. I have cabinets full of items in boxes. One of my parents owned a convenience store at the time so I have 2 of the huge M & M characters used to display candy at their store. My student thought I should have them.
