I make art and tell stories.
Proud mom to 3 children with matching cats. They always beat me in staring contests - even the cats.
Modern, vintage and retro textiles inspire me, along with the artwork of my kiddos.
I throw in a little nature and some animals for fun.
*lover of beauty and visceral process...it's who i am.
Fine artist by profession...in the past I was a classically trained dancer (ballet, tap, jazz, modern, etc).
I've also worked for the State of Missouri - in the LIHEAP division of the CSBG grant funded programs for the Family Support Division. I wrote program and policy for the State as well.
Currently I exhibit with the non-profit event "Art Inside the Park", ranked #2 in Missouri for outdoor fine art events.
My fine art quilts, mixed media collages, and paintings are in private collections around the world.
I am now concentrating on sharing my work with others via online tutorials, patterns, and publishing my ideas in several well-known magazines. A work in progress, but a personal goal of mine for 2012.
I sew, knit, crochet, weave, paint, draw, sculpt, collage and take photos with vintage cameras and expired film. I love to tweak, try the impossible and break the rules when it comes to photography. Cross processing is fun too!
I write short stories and poetry, blogging when the mood strikes.
I watch indie films, and listen to garage bands. I read...about everything. And play the drums.
I work mostly in mixed media collage and fabric. Vintage buttons are my weakness.
I love color - any color! Olive, chartreuse, orange, saffron and especially that color you make with diazinon purple and cobalt.
Dark chocolate, Andes mints in my Guinness and hot cocoa with a peppermint straw.
Mid century modern architecture and decor.
Almost anything vintage (think Danish Mod)...the clothes, the shoes, the jewelry, the decor.
Some day I will make or own one of those vintage jewelry trees. On velvet. And an Eames rocker.
Singing show tunes as loud as possible.
Grimm's fairytales.
Texture: knitting, weaving, clay, fibers, papier mache, paper, wool
Anything handmade, especially by children.
Making my girls laugh!
Fabric - anything retro, danish mod, or textural.
Vintage wrapping paper.
Indie films and music.
Papercranes, The Cure, The Beatles, Sting, Feist, Bjork, Slowdive...and some others.
The smell of lavendar and home baked goodies.
That red-orange color of winter wheat.
Abandoned barns and industrial spaces.
Apple faced barn owls. Winged creatures.
The drawings of Goya. Ghosts and cats.
And cats who stare...at imaginary things.
People who are unkind, judgemental, and basically not good stewards of animals, our environment, and others.
gossip. period.
