Hello,
I'm Marie and am retired and love it. Especially because I can now have time to do more art – although there still never seems like enough to me – ha!
As a self-taught artists, I have been creating art my entire life, and that’s a LONG time. Through the majority of the years I painted pet portrait commissions in oil – usually 16” x 20”. My paintings are very realistic and I focus on the eyes, as I feel the eyes are the “window to the soul”.
Other mediums I use are watercolor, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, graphite, and most recently alcohol ink. I have fallen in love with alcohol ink and have been creating what I call “Windblown Flowers”, which have wispy magical petals and a very detail center. My Etsy shop is noted above. Check it out if you are so inclined.
And for the left side of my brain, I am a graphic designer and web designer. Being equally right brained and left brained, makes it hard when I want to be analytic and yet freely create. That’s an oxymoron! My favorite word.
The most important thing about me is that I LOVE NATURE – any kind of it – all of it. I’d live outside 24/7 if that were possible. I see the beauty in all that God has created, and in my artwork the majority of times, that is what I am trying to reflect. In fact, my tagline is "Artist of His creations, painting natures stories" - which pretty much sums me up. Nature of any kind has called my name for as long as I can remember. My artwork subject matters are animals, plants, sky, water - basically anything nature related.
In 2021, I started Nature Journaling and I document plants, trees, and shrubs in all of their stages of development. This gives me a place to put all the things I observe, and get to “put my brain on paper” – something I learned from John Muirs Law who teaches Nature Journaling.
My favorite color is green and especially green and blue together. I do NOT like pink! I can tolerate yellow, but I don’t prefer it.
I am an avid gardener, with a pretty good green thumb. Every year my deck has an abundance of multi-colored coleus. It’s like having flowers, but not – as the many colorful leaves give the impression of a floral group. AND I don’t have flowers to deadhead and the such.
In my family of 3 adult children and 9 grandchildren – almost ALL of them are artistic, and my children also married artistic people. So our gatherings tend to focus around creative things. In fact, one of my granddaughters is going to college to be an art teacher. Love that! Carrying forward our love, desire and inspiration for all things creative.
WELL – that is quite enough about me – ha!
I don’t tend to do many crafts, but am an admirer of them, especially when someone comes up with something I’ve never seen before., like Vignette Boxes. Although I do sew – but mostly out of necessity.
I love every kind of music, except Jazz,RnB and Rap. My favorite music artist are Adele (because I love a good ballad song and am happy she brought this full force back into the world of music), Passenger, James Blunt, Rusted Root, Snow Patrol, OneRepublic, Wild Nothing, Fleet Foxes, Trevor Hall, U2, Jewel, Walk Off The Earth, King of Leon – you get the idea – lots of alternative groups. And to go to sleep by – Liquid Mind – I love their ambient sounds!
For many years I played acoustic guitar in praise teams at church. Favorite Christian artists are Michael Card, Chris Rice, Fernando Ortega, Todd Agnew, Jeremy Camp, Colton Dixon – and who doesn’t love Michael W. Smith?!
Downton Abbey, Color Purple, Lord of the rings, Bridgerton – almost any English films – as it fascinates me of the differences from the United States
This is Us – so sad it is ending! Good Doctor, American Idol, The Voice, PBS shows, Nature Channel, Science Channel
Jodi Picolt as I love her style of writing, having reach chapter written from different characters perspective in their narrative. And I always learn lots about social subjects and moral dillemas, which I would not be able to understand as thoroughly if I had not read her books. Especially pertinent to the times now is “Small Great Things”.
Anything nature related – naturally – ha! See what I did there?!
Animals of all kinds – except, please not cute cats though – sorry.
Butterflies, hummingbirds, feathers, plants, mushrooms, birds, dragonflies.
Anything related to the above information I shared that I like: music, movies, books, crafts.
The color yellow and pink
Political stuff
Arrogant and opinionated people
Evil, gory and violent stuff
Loose glitter that can and DOES get everywhere.
