Hello there, my name is Ashley.
September 2020 - So I completely forgot about swap-bot (like a few years), until I started cleaning some pretty deep drawers. This is for anyone is checking my profile, I am back and slowly organizing everything so I can get back into this. I'll be honest and say outright I have one unresolved swap I am working on fixing I do want to point out that one of the people hasn't logged on in years and am unsure on how to proceed.
I am a 28 year old still figuring out what to do with life, just passing the time by trying to bring a little happiness and color in this world.
Just a few things I do in my free time: I am almost listening to something the entire time I'm awake. Between spotify, audiobooks, and podcasts there is more than enough to keep me entertained. I've gotten back into cross-stitching and have decided to take on a huge project, the finished design measures at 16"x24"! I've been getting back into writing, a few little passion projects as well as a little thing I've been writing with a friend for a few years now. I've been watching lots of tv and with all the different streaming subscriptions, there is an endless amount to catch up on. Working out with friends over Houseparty
Pre-COVID Experience the video games I was denied during my childhood. Read the couple dozen books I've had for years, but still just buy more instead of reading them. Getting lost on tumblr or instagram. Hang out with friends, hopefully playing some board or card games. Clean, it feels like it never gets done, does it. Research witchcraft as I am slowly getting back into practicing.
When inspirations strikes I love writing, baking and cooking, or any type of crafting/creative activity.
If you do not receive a swap from me, please message me first.
When I was younger I would read 8 to 9 books a month. This is how I would escape the single child lifestyle after my much older siblings left. I am happy to give recommendations!
Alice Hoffman -Green Angel and Green Witch, Indigo, Aquamarine, Practical Magic, and Rules of Magic
Rick Riordan - Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, The Kane Chronicles, and Magnus Chase series.
Malissa De La Cruz - Blue Bloods series
Jane Austin - Pride and Prejudice. Also Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Bram Stoker - Dracula
Nowadays I mainly listen to audio books from the various libraries I've collected cards from. Recently bought a few anti-racist books and as soon as I've finished them, no doubt they will be up here as well.
CAN I JUST SAY THAT BLACK PANTHER IS BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING AND I'M READY TO SEE IT ANOTHER 20 TIMES. GO CHECK IT OUT Three years later and I still believe in this message, especially now with the sad passing of Chadwick Boseman and the BLM movement that has been going on these past months, yes they are still going on!
I love well made movies because they are great-Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, the MCU's Captain America movies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Shawshank Redemption--but I also love some badly made movies because they are great. There is a special place in my heart for B rated horror films and cult classics--Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cursed, The Lost Boys, Trick 'r Treat, Stay Alive.
Some favorite Directors/Writers and their films:
Guillermo Del Torro: Pans Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Strain, Crimson Peak.
Mel Brooks - Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, History of the World part one, Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
Steven Spielberg - Jaws, Indiana Jones series, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, Hook, Jurassic Park, Catch Me If You Can, War Horse
Now, there are movies that I could watch everyday. I will never turn down the chance to watch. 13 Going On 30, The Singing Detective, The Road to El Dorado, Holes, Scooby Doo (2002) and basically every animated feature length film before this one. Beauty and the Beast (1992 and 2017), Cinderella (2015), Odd Tomas, Chef, Stardust, The Help, White Christmas, Hocus Pocus, House on Haunted Hill, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Mummy & The Mummy Returns!
As you can see I like just about everything. Animated. Horror. Comedy. Historical Period Pieces.
I do love my Marvel movies. Bucky Barnes is a precious cinnamon roll that must be protected. Team Captain America! Sam Wilson must also be protected.
My taste are very eclectic, there is little that I don't like, which is just about everything on the Heavy Metal/Screamo side and most of American Hip/Hop & Rap after 2005.
It changes every few months or so as to what is my favorite at the time, but I am always down for some Classic Rock and Broadway show tunes. Oh also a playlist I made that can always get me dancing.
Current Obsession: Rainbow - Kesha. This new album is so full of emotion, it's beautiful.
One thing I can always be found listening to are podcasts. Mostly from Rooster Teeth - The Rooster Teeth Podcast, Off Topic, Always Open, Red Web, Black Box Down. And Aaron Mahnke - LORE, Unobscured, Cabinet of Curiosities, Nobel Blood. REI's Camp Monsters is another great spooky listen!
I used to watch so many shows. So many. Sadly many lose my interest when the writing starts getting lazy, repetitive, or just plain bad.
Shows that I will never turn down to watch, no matter how many times I've already watched them:
Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries
True Blood
The Haunting of Hill House (can not wait for the next series Haunting of Bly Manor!)
Lucifer
iZombie
Once Upon A Time (1st season only)
Also currently watching: Lucifer, Hannibal, Teen Wolf, Outlander, The Flash, and Umbrella Academy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Honestly most of these are rewatches expect for the latest season. It's hard to start anything new these days.
I love to work with my hands. I have been crafty all my life, starting with learning to braid which led to friendship bracelets and lanyards. I have worked with beading, crochet, loom knitting, cross stitching, machine sewing, hand sewing, soap making, candle making, ceramics, as well as many DIY's found on Pintrest and other sources around the internet.
My interest will change pretty often, one month I can't stop crocheting, the next I don't want to do anything but paint.
I used to love doing any type of paper crafting, scrapbooking, card making, pocket letters and would love to get back into it...I just love looking at pretty paper, and pretty things in general.
As for art, my father is a retired art teacher. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "It's violet not purple." I have tried just about every medium there is to create a picture, chalk & oil pastels, acrylic & oil paint, graphite and colored pencils, ink pens, markers, and crayons.
My favorite medium to work with is watercolors. I love the way you can layer the same color and the way colors blend together unexpectedly.
LIKES: The outdoors. I love going on adventures and exploring. geocaching, hiking, camping, anything having to do with National and State parks. This year I was doing the 52 Hike Challenge, but I only got about 6 hikes in before the world went tits up and lightning has now destroyed some of my favorite parks.
I love the color green! All things green. I also enjoy other earth-tone/nature and ocean colors. Gardening, flowers, houseplants, succulents, I absolutely love it all. There is nothing like going out to the back garden and picking fresh ingredients you've grown yourself.
Anything with Turtles, Wolves, Dachshunds (and most any dogs really) and really any type of bird.
I love to bake and cook and welcome any recipe swap! My favorite is dark chocolate. I love spice. I love coffee. I love tea, any type, but nothing is better during the summer than some iced green tea. Neither is better than the other. I enjoy them both.
Earthy, Spicy, and Floral scents.
Socks.
If you want to draw, paint, doodle, color anything I would love it.
Just a few of the many different studies I pursue in my own time: History, Mythology, Geology, Philosophy, Photography, Literature, and Linguistics.
DISLIKES: The color yellow.
I absolutely hate 'white chocolate', it's not even chocolate. Artificial grape and cherry flavors.
I don't like sweet scents like chocolate, sugar, vanilla
Loose glitter.
Would prefer not to receive anything religious.
For Postcards You can refer to what I have here as a guideline. If I have to pick favorites, it would have to be nature, art, and architecture.
Stickers - especially vinyl/waterproof ones.
Enamel Pins and Patches!
Seeds - bought or harvested from your own garden, if you can't name them a picture of the plant would be appreciated
Fabric scraps, like at least big enough to get 2"x2" squares out of it. My mother is slowly working on a scrap quilt.
Anything having to do with: - Dia De Los Muertos/Sugar Skulls - Lilo & Stitch - MARVEL - Harry Potter ( GO Ravenclaw!) - Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier - Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter
I am a green, lunar witch. I love my succulents and the moon, stars, and night. I love working with crystals and tarot.
If there are any witches who would like to be friends, I would love to have some which I can talk to about this and bounce ideas and experiences off of.
