I am a quintessential mother. My mother gave me my first baby when I was six and it has been diapers ever since, except now, the diapers belong to my parents.

One of the things I do to keep my sanity is quilting. My goal is that loved ones sleep under a pile of quilts that I made for them. I am nearly there, there are few second cousins who only have one or two. My "guest" room is full of my extensive collection of quilt tops that are waiting to be finished. My closet is bursting with more fabric than most people can imagine. Its organized by color-- except for a few categories-- such as time periods.

My other obsessions include room-mothering (this may be my tenth year) baking without leavening (its a long story-- who needs puffy cakes, anyway??), keeping my beloved husband's wallet in a safe place, caring for my siblings (I am a middle child, 'nuff said) and exploring the sublteties of German cuisine (a new discovery for me-- meat and potatoes with aspic-- brilliant! I am sick of salads!)

Besides every phase of quilting, I love gardening, finding used cookbooks, reading biographies, classic literature and novels.

Gardening gives me a chance to talk to the crows, be outside in the fog, get my hands in the dirt, watch things grow, and most importantly, it puts me out of earshot of the telephone. I cultivate artichokes, corn, flowers, leafy green veggies, nasturtiums, geraniums, gophers, snails and various other creepy crawlies.

One of the things I get out of reading is education and a new perspective. For example, I just read "Crashing Through" by Richard Kurson, and I learned how amazing our gift of sight is from somone who used to be blind.

I love any kind of blue-- especially sky and aqua.

Traditional patterns-- such as Civil War and Thirties.

I have a new interest in reds.
