Young professional living in the DC area, who has always enjoyed sending and receiving snail mail, the postal museum is one of my favorite Smithsonians! I was first inspired by a book in the library called Children Just Like Me, they had a way to become an international penpal with another kid in the world in the back of the book. Unfortunately I was reading the book quite a bit after it was published, but it always had me thinking that I would like a pen pal. I have had local pen pals before, but never with people I do not know, or internationally.
Ultimately I am looking for a snail mail pen pal who I can correspond with regularly. I am relatively down to earth, liberal woman who enjoys thoughtful discussion and has an interest in the genuine thoughts, feelings, and emotions of those around me and appreciates the same in others.
I love to read, usually what I consider "realistic fiction" which tells the stories of people living life. I also read some non-fiction, here and there. Here is a non-ranked, non-exhaustive list of some books I have enjoyed in the last few years.
Fiction:
Cutting for Stone
Wings of Invention
The Cider House Rules
Dreams of Trespass
The Prince of Tides
She's Come Undone
The Hour I First Believed
Non-Fiction:
God's Hotel
Wild
Complications
LIKES:
Bold patterns and colors
Plants (not just succulents)
Modern Art
Makeup and skin care
Chocolate!!
Traditions and special things from other cultures

I rode the elevator to the eleventh floor, and as I got out, the operator said, “Have a good day, son.” “Don’t call me son,” I said. “You’re not my dad.” He scratched his head and said, “No, but I brought you up, didn’t I?”.
What currency do they use in outer space? Starbucks.
My wife always prefers the stairs, whereas I always like to take the elevator. I guess we are raised differently.

A preacher, completing a temperance sermon, spoke with great fervor! “If I had all the beer in the world, I’d throw it all into the river.??? With greater emphasis, he said, “And if I had all the wine in the world, I’d throw it all into the river.??? And finally he said, “And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I’d throw it all into the river, too!??? As he took his chair, the song leader stood and announced with a smile, “For our closing hymn, let us sing number 365: “Shall We Gather at the River.???
