Hello~! My name is Havarah and I live in a small town in New York State, about 1.5 hours north of New York City. I grew up near the ocean on Long Island, and thus love anything related to the sea, boats, fishing, or marine life. I studied Cartography (map-making) in college and hope to get a job that involves mapping at some point in the future. Right now I work at a New York State historic site (The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor) as an "interpreter" which basically means that I work with the archives and also help guests interpret the site. Before that I worked at a contemporary art museum in Beacon, NY called Dia:Beacon.
I also enjoy drawing, and just finished up drawing most of the illustrations for a card game based on the book Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, which is my favorite book. Our first crop of games was just manufactured and it's pretty awesome. If you'd like you can check out our website: www.mobydickgame.com
I am very excited about participating in some swaps. I have always loved mail and consistently keep in touch with some friends in far places via snail mail. I am very excited about corresponding and meeting new people through these means as well.
I will be happy to receive anything you may send, but have a special affinity for the unique, the bizarre, and the (perhaps) inappropriate. By that I mean something that has a certain humor, or an interesting story tied to it. I signed up for swap-bot to encounter strangers across the globe, and get to know something about them or their life/environment in a real way.
I assume it would also be helpful to mention that I love to see old images. Old vintage postcards, a scrap of something from your community, even pictures you have taken yourself.
Of course, I will truly be happy to receive anything you may send me, or read anything you may write. The real joy is in receiving mail from around the world.
Happy swapping! :^)
Moby-Dick or, the Whale - Herman Melville
The Book from the Sky - Robert Kelly
Seeing if Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees: Thirty Years of Conversation with Robert Irwin - Lawrence Weschler
1Q84 - Haruki Murakami
The Wind-up Bird Chronicle - Haruki Murakami
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Bagdad Café
The Life Aquatic
High Art
Maps - hand drawn, collaged, found, made out of unexpected materials.... truly, ANY maps of ANY place or ANY thing.
Since most of the swaps I participate in are Postcard swaps, I thought it would be helpful to mention that I prefer single view cards. I am not very fond of multi-view cards with garrish text on them. Vintage cards, pictures of boats or harbors, and other such sea related things are my favorite single view images.
I also prefer them written on, stamped, and sent 'naked' (not in an envelope).. that is, unless a swap specifies otherwise.
Feel free to check out my Postcrossing profile and Postcard Wall by using the link at the top of this page.
The above are just suggestions, of course. I will truly appreciate anything you send.
