About Me

Hello all, MOTTO: I like to think that my motto in life is Laugh often, Love much and Live well - I believe if you do the first 2 things right then the third just falls into place and you are living well. :)

LIKES: I like just about everyone I meet. I'm definately a critter person (real or mythical) and I'm quite partial to Dragon Flies. I love aquatic mammals like otters, beluga whales, seals and sea lions, Invertibrates like horsecrabs, squid, octopus Land mammals especially racoons and dogs. Any poor animal that's been villianized like bats, snakes and spiders. I'm also a rock hound - I have rocks and fossils everywhere in my house.
I'm very hooked into nature and the great outdoors, especially the mountains and the oceans.

DISLIKES: Mean and Judgemental people.

HOBBIES/PASTIMES: I love camping, backbacking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, and letterboxing. I'm an archery instructor and challenge course low/high ropes facilitator. I also love to participate/watch most sports - Love basketball, hockey, football and base/softball. I love all kinds of science especially astronomy, earth and wildlife education and I do a lot of activities with scout groups. I'm also a volunteer junkie and I love to give back to the community. I know it sounds cheesy but these volunteer ops have given me far more than I feel I've given to them. I like learning and experiencing new things and will give just about anything a try. I'm a patron of the arts performance, music, etc...

OTHER: My daytime job is in IT mgmt. I have a little fledgling business called "Once upon a Time" specializing in children's dress up theme parties. I don't make any money at it - I just have so much fun interacting with the children.

ARTS and CRAFTS: I'm also arts and crafty - I don't consider myself very original though - I can copy just about anything and can be resourceful in recycling and repurposing items but coming up with the original idea is not my forte. I love to do arts and crafts with children. My kids tell me I'm Martha Stewart on crack :) - I don't think I'm that bad but there is an awful lot of hidden square footage in my house that is dedicated to arts and crafts supplies. I do love a good little craft project to keep me busy from time to time. That's why I think SWAPing will be a good pastime for me :) **NOTE - I was told by a coordinator that this profile was not specific enough - especially on this topic - so here goes more info - I don't generally sew on a sewing machine but do hand sew. I paint, bead, use paper in strange and interesting ways, glass work, tile, candles, silk flowers, embroider, crochet (I don't knit yet but probably will in the future), Cross stitch, scapbook etc.. - honestly If something catches my eye then I'll probably make it regardless of the medium. I'm not afraid to try anything new and I'm not partial to any particular thing in arts and crafts - for me it's about the end result. Hence the 1500 sq ft of arts and crafts supplies in my house which would probably be enough to keep the entire city of NY public schools busy for at least a year. :) I have no real need for more craft supplies - if I get more than that's great - I'll be happy to have it. As a newbie, if I'm missing the point of this swap site please clue me in. I figured the point was to swap things - could be anything - not necessarily just arts and crafts stuff although I imagine anything can be considered arts and crafts these days in the right creative mind. :)

READING CHOICES: I love to read - I read a lot of the classics, fantasy, gothic novels, and books on Theology and world religions - If you ever get a chance try reading "God is a Verb" - Easy read and a Great book. I also love to read books about travel destinations. I also read a lot of tweener books -(The Twilight series being the last ones) Call it research - Someday, I might just give it a try to write a book myself.

MUSIC: My taste in music is very very diversified and all music seems to speak to my soul on one level or another. however, Soul, Funk, Motown, Bach, Vivaldi, Brahms, Rob Zombie, AC/DC, Evenescence, Nora Jones, Sarah Mcloughlin would be my preferences to listen to.

MOVIES: Although I do not often go to the movies - My favorite kinds of movies are action adventure films - anything with antiquities and action, I love - The Mummy, Indiana Jones (yes even the last one :) ) American Treasure, DaVinci code etc...

TELEVISION: I watch very little TV - in fact I do not have a TV to watch. My son does, but he plays video games on it and that's about it. Anything I need to watch is on the INET - I have to confess I'm a huge fan of FRINGE and Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

Comment: Well I hope you got to go to Disney, too, and weren't "just" there on business. Yep, FL is VERY hot. Since we came back to Germany we're constantly sick since we're used to the FL heat. I dread the winter that's fast approaching here!

Comment: wow. We have a little dream that we want to travel the lower 48 upon retirement. Not just 'visit' but like work at some little job or sell our crafts and stay a while to get a feel. I think you were also the one who mentioned in your 101 that you wanted to hike part of the Appalachian trail? anyhow, we have the pacific crest trail, and that would be way cool to hike the other 2, or parts of them. Plus my husband is a big map freak and I just got a kick out of reading everything! I knew next to nothing about that part of hte country , let alone CN. I'm definitely saving for future ref. Plus, I think I am going to start making books like that for our trips. Not a fancy scrap book, but I like what you did! anyhow, you are awesome thanks so much!! have fun with the sea creatures! mel
