I am a crafty mother of 3 in Los Angeles. I love chocolate, books, yarn, fabric, things that glitter, faries and craft fairs. I grew up in the NW and am still surprised to be living in LA. My kids are in a waldorf school, where they learn to knit and needle felt and sew their own gnomes. I like to think I am a hipster dork but may be a little too old for the hipster part. I did just get my first tattoo (a rather large pair of scissors on my back) and my hair is often purple. I LOVE OWLS.
The garden state sound track, radiohead, the submarines, Craft, Jose Gonzolas, both soundtracks from the twilight series and iron and wine. I go through phases of listening to music a lot, and find that a really pumping song (15 step) can make a long drive fly by. When I am tired of my play lists I listen to the local public radio music show-KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic. I am an NPR junkie.
Pretty in Pink, say anything, breakfast club (Obviously I'm stuck in high school). I like action films, sci fi and fantasy-love Blade Runner despite the eye thing, and Willow. Avatar was fine but not best picture material in my head. Hate sports films. And horror-not my things. Love suspense though and a good spy film. Jason Bourne is my hero, but only in the first one.
On demand movies. Game of thrones, walking dead and the occasional guilty afternoon episode of Bones.
I have been crafting since I can remember, my childhood xmas presents were always the craft kits from the jcpenny's catalog (think battery operated potters wheel). I love bookbinding, sewing, knitting, and crochet, but I will try anything, and probably have. I don't really like polymer clay, though I keep trying it to see if I will change my mind. I love anything to do with paper-folding, cutting, gluing, writing on. The matchbook thing is what drew me on to swap-bot, and I've already made a bunch. I was a regular attendee of Artfest in Seattle every year, where I got my creative juices flowing and actually tried to finish something! Now trying to find a was to create space in my life to do it on my own.
I love sci fi books, but some of my favorite books are still ones I read as a teenager. I love the hobbit and reread it on a regular basis-now to my son as a well. I loved Cynthia Voigt stories, the Jackaroo especially, and Dicey's song. Strong girl characters I guess. The Mists of Avalon was a big one for me in college, and I still think about The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery. I have hundreds of books though, and am trying to figure out where to put them all in my house-most of my shelves have yarn on them!
I love paper, yarn, fabric-especially when it's a fat quarter, owls, birds, butterflies, modern architecture, modern quilting, modern knitting, flowers, french manicures with the tips done in silver, red wine, cocktails, purple hair dye, nice soap, minty gum, weird candy from far off lands, going to far off lands, little toys that come in chocolate eggs and japanese gum boxes, wooden toys, train rides, toy cameras, sparkly jewelry, sushi, smooth rocks found on the beach, sticks found on long walks, playmobil, the smell of dirt after it rains, leaves that have fallen off the trees in the fall, wonder woman, Robert downy Jr. and every movie he's ever been in, gold eye shadow, Glimmer mists, martha stewart glitter, sharp scissors, polaroids, little tins and little boxes, twislers, ball point pens in an array of colors, Lily Tomlin and Jalapeno poppers and pear cider, and port townsend. Oh, and car ferries. And rainbows.
