Description:

This swap is to help creative writers over their worst obstacle: writer\'s block.

The idea of this swap is to get your creative juices flowing, and help other writers do the same, without having a large financial outlay.

Send:

Send to Partner 1) An opening sentence. (Example: \"The handle of the tea cup pierced his ear.\")

Send to Partner 2) A random object. (Examples: A stamp with Arabic lettering. An origami frog. The first page of the X words of a dictionary. A beautiful stone. A jackelope postcard. The front page of a newspaper from the 1970s. A funky bottle cap. In many respects, the more random the object, the more interesting it will be.)

Send your letter via snail mail--postcard, letter, etc. is fine.

Do we actually send the object, or do we just tell them the object??

AngrySpinner 02/22/2007 #

Send the actual object to partner #2.

A muse-object if you will. My thought was something along the lines of starting a short story with the protagonist opening a small package from a stranger that contains the random object and no explanation.

IRL, though, I recommend at least putting \"Swap-bot #2300\" somewhere on the package. But I have no objections to a note of explanation being included.

i think this is a great idea. I facilitate a writer's group and have done assignmenst where we have a sentence or a word to write about. I like the object part, too.

butterflykisses 03/ 2/2007 #

I love this idea. It's been awhile since I've actually sat down and written a nice fictional story ( about a year actually ) so this would do me some good! I love writing suspenseful fics, so if my partner had a sentence in mind that would spin a story of this genre I would love you to bits! I'll even send you a finished copy!

I'm new here and I want to participate in this swap. I write stories but I can't write since almost a year. I'm absolutely block. It's so sad for me because I love to write. Butterfly Kisses, I understand you perfectly! Best.

Hey, everybody,

what a great idea - and a perfect timing! It's been a long time since I wrote the last short story, so I'm looking forward to whatever comes to me via this swap. Since I am German and I write in German, the story I'm hopefully inspired to will be in German, but if "my swappers" ;) are interested in the outcome, I would translate it and send it back in my best possible English. :) (Just leave me a short note) -- Mel

Hi there!

My packages went postal today; one package to the United States and the other to Chile (please be patient on that one, since I'm not sure how long it will take).

I hope what I've sent will inspire you!

Felicia A.

I just realized that the 11th is a Sunday (duh), so I changed the swap date to Tuesday, the 13th. :-) --Jen aka Angry Spinner

Misty (JamesDean): Wow. What a great starter idea. I'll have to think a bit and pull out my journal and a cup of tea.

Your item arrived today. Thanks so much!

Felicia

user6321 03/20/2007 #

Seems like more than a few of us got tripped up by the directions to this swap-- as I received two objects... (I just realized that I read the directions incorrectly too: I sent a sentence and an object to both partners... woops!) but anywho: thanks to OrcaSong and Mel for the objects-- both interesting and inspirational!

user3051 03/20/2007 #

Jessica Jewel -- ah! so that was an object! hahah I thought it was you being clever

my swap buddies in this received a bit more form me than JUST an opener or random item. I really got inspired to be an inspiration!

Remember to rate your partners today. I rated both Jessicas already ;)

user6307 03/21/2007 #

Recieved an interesting package today from Misha, great starter of a good love story or poem. (flower petals were sent, interesting never thought of that one)

user6142 03/21/2007 #

jamesdean, I'm so glad that you liked the items I sent. I hope it helps you in the long run! By the way, I adore James dean. I've been a huge fan since I was 14. You have great taste =)
