Description:

Swap is for paper squares; trimmed to 1 inch square. Please send nice papers, can be art or scrapbook papers, any texture or weight, photos, nice text or pictures from books, artwork, painted papers. Any of these are OK as long as they are one inch square. Please no magazines or newspapers, unless that is what your partner requests. You may have other ideas. I see these little papers as useful in journaling, art, atc's, inspiration. All are welcome. International OK, but you need to figure one inch square conversion. I don't have a clue. Minimun 25 pieces to 4 partners. I'll only ban you if you have 3 or more no sends. Newbies welcome!

I forgot to mention that construction paper is not good either.

rhodyart 03/ 2/2007 #

what a neat idea!

Vlcatko 03/ 2/2007 #

Do the pieces have to be EXACTLY one inch (that would be 2.54 centimeters for me) or can they be larger? You see, I love getting new bits and pieces of papers, but 1 inch is small even for me sometimes... Couldn't we use "minimally 1 inch" rule instead?

prettylily 03/ 2/2007 #

If it doesn't translate to 1 inch where you are; don't worry about it. As long as it's a minimun of one inch. Most of us most likely have paper trimers, but keep in mind you may receive one inch in return. If you are not in the US and need something a little larger, just put it on your wish list. You may possibly receive something larger. I figured this was a good way to part with those precious tiny scraps, that we know, we all have, and allow the international folks to participate, for the cost of a 1st class letter. I am doing a project and would have to trim mine though to exactly one inch. Thanks for asking. I find this community to be most accomodating and generous.

prettylily 03/ 2/2007 #

And fun! Did I mention that?

digitalmaven 03/ 2/2007 #

This is perfect for me because I make collages with 1" squares, so I am definitely joining! :)

prettylily 03/ 2/2007 #

Great! Thanks for signing up.

StuffbySteph 03/ 2/2007 #

Oh yay!!! What a perfect swap for me! I am so IN :)

evacorges 03/ 3/2007 #

Sounds good! I'm in europe thinking metric, but will do my best to measure them, keeping in mind that too large is better than too small.

memmu 03/ 3/2007 #

This sounds fun... just have to join in :)!

CraftyDiana 03/ 3/2007 #

This is such a creative idea and I can't wait to get started! xo Diana

prettylily 03/ 3/2007 #

This is shaping up nicely! Thanks to all who have signed up so far. One way I plan to use my scraps is when I travel. I'm going to fill a small tin or two with my little papers and try tiny colleges in my journal. I'm getting tired of just doing sketching, watercolor, ink and I find every time I drag along an easel, or pochade; I either have no free time, weathers bad, etc. With all of the travel restictions we have now a days, I figure this is a light and easy addition to my wee, portable, traveling studio. :-)

ChristineMM 03/ 5/2007 #

I have a one inch square die cutter and it makes it very easy. I am going to sign up for this swap once I make sure I know where my die cutter is! Thanks for hosting this!

prettylily 03/ 5/2007 #

Thanks for signing up. Today I used some as seals on letters. I rather thought they added extra interest and color to the mail. Not to mention the extra seal!

Cloverst 03/ 8/2007 #

do they have to be 25 different papers or if, say, it is a really cool paper can you include like 2 or 3 squares ing. I'd hate my partner to love the paper and only have one square. I don't mind either way!

alhambra 03/ 8/2007 #

do they have to be squares? I started to cut the paper, but i've made rectangles...

carterXchan 03/ 8/2007 #

IMHO, I don't think that rectangles are a problem as long as they are bigger than 1" square and could be cut down. I would view it as a bonus!

prettylily 03/ 9/2007 #

Rectangles can easly be cut down to squares. Your partner probably won't mind trimming a bit more off. I do plan on sending my partners a few larger squares, so they will have some repeating squares. Remember it's 25 minimun. That's not a whole lot, so feel free to send as much as you like. I've never heard any complaints about someone getting too much of anything. Our non USA friends measurements are a little different anyway. So...Let's just have some fun. I've also cut some text from books in both 1 and 2 inch squares. If I have time to do this agian, I think it will be for two or 3 inch squares. That might have been easier for everyone. This is my first hosting of a swap, so next time, larger squares for everyone! You all have good points. Thanks for the imput and it's almost swap time.

CraftyDiana 03/ 9/2007 #

Hi everyone! I had SO much fun getting my three packages together for this swap that I decided to start another one just like it. My new swap will be for 2 inch squares of paper and with only 2 partners, so that should be a little easier.

Please check out my swap..it's the first time that I've ever hosted one so hopefully lots of people will sign up! :-) Diana

Cloverst 03/13/2007 #

I can swap angel to I got serenity as well.

prettylily 03/13/2007 #

Good morning, Wow there has been a lot going on. I see that one member has deleted her profile and I have had 2 angel offers. Thank you angels. I will check her partner list and send on a name in her country, if you send me a message. If the partner is out of the USA, I will take care of it. I have not mailed mine yet; will be doing that today and I am usually first out the door. They are ready. I just have not be able to leave to get to the PO. I appologize to everyone for not checking in as often as maybe I should have. I have been framing art & delivering it to a gallery today for a show. Due to the time that was taking me, I had dropped all swaps I was in, until after the delivery date. Things will be back to normal this afternoon. Do not worry, If someone does not send you anythin; I will. Hope this makes sense; I'm only half awake right now. :-) Rather rude of that person to just delete her profile. Don't you think. I'll certainly be more careful in the future! Will check back later. Sueb

prettylily 03/13/2007 #

OK, I finally got mine out to JoLyn, Mervi, Mary, and May. Plus we have a couple of angels that have volunteered to pick up two of the ones that were left out, when a member deleted profile. :-) Now I can take a little breather and fix up that last one ad hopefully get it out tomorrow. Thanks to EVERYONE for being so patient and generous. Indeed this is a pretty cool community. I hope my partners like my picks for them. I look forward to the mail each day, ever since I found this place.

Cloverst 03/13/2007 #

OK mine are out to mandy, isis, Crystal & JoLyn. hope you like! Get the latest swap-bot gossip here: http://swapbot.proboards53.com/ for co-ordinators: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/swapbotmembercheck/

prettylily 03/13/2007 #

Thanks to all of the angels that stepped forward to pick up the slack. As far as I know, everyone is covered now. It really is nice how everyone is looking out for each other. If for some reason a person does not receive any paper or if you have any concerns, please let me know and I will see that no one goes without. Thank you to everyone that has assisted in this, my first hosting experience. (I know it isn't over yet) :-)

carterXchan 03/14/2007 #

nimzay, Leenda77, Willow Tree, and mantica - watch your mailboxes next week for paper scraps!

WillowTree21 03/15/2007 #

Double edge sword!

I truly was hoping to make a one (1) inch paper quilt. This is why I signed up for this swap. As well as I do decoupage.

Part of me is bummed and the other part of me understands!

I got paper that isn’t one inch, which means I have work to do to cut them down to one inch and in some cases I can’t get an inch out of them because they are rectangular with a narrow than one inch width. I also understand that in some cases, you might have been thinking “I am sending this one that is more than an inch and she has more.

Like I said “A double edged sword.

I sent 30 one inch squares of regular paper, then 7 one inch specialty paper, then three larger than one inch, to each partner.

WillowTree21 03/15/2007 #

If I bake a cake and you tell me it's good and it isn't, are you helping me or hurting me? Telling me it's good means I would make it again.

The above prior post is my opinion, the swap was for, and I copy and paste: Swap is for paper squares; trimmed to 1 inch square. ...... Any of these are OK as long as they are one inch square.

gooddog56 03/15/2007 #

Wow! I got all three envelopes today! Thanks much, Linuxwitch--beautiful squares, thanks Erinn--such a nice variety of papers! and thanks, Maureen--I feel honored to have some of your very first handmade papers--they are lovely!

carterXchan 03/15/2007 #

Thanks to Jessica T for my squares - they are so fun!

prettylily 03/16/2007 #

Thank you, Aliisza, I love my paper! It's also nice to have a few larger pieces like you sent, so I can repeat a pattern if I want.

carterXchan 03/16/2007 #

Thanks to SusieLucie - your envelope arrived today! I love all of the bright colors!

zanylady 03/16/2007 #

StuffbySteph 03/16/2007 #

I got mail :-) Joanandemma, thank you for the terrific assortment! :) I really appreciate the variety of sizes and textures!

Suzylucie, another huge thank you! The colours in your papers are outstanding and I'm really looking forward to collaging with them:)

Thank you!!

CraftyDiana 03/16/2007 #

Thanks Marlene. Lovely papers..especially the handmade salmon paper. -Diana

ChristineMM 03/16/2007 #

Janet B your squares arrived today. THANKS.

Just noticed someone asked me about the 1 inch square die cutter/punch. I got it at AC Moore chain craft store. They also sell squares in 7/8th inch and many other sizes. That company has circles in graduated sizes too which are fun to make art with. The brand is Paper Shapers by EK Success. When I use it, I turn it upside down and I can see the little window of what I want to cut out then punch it out, it is fun and easy to play around with. I see them online for under $11 each, but as I said I got mine at AC Moore with the discount of 40% or 50% off one item, that they put out every week.

gramsbuttonbox 03/16/2007 #

Sueb, Thanks so much for hosting this great swap, and for being such an "Angel" yourself - I got your darling papers today - oh I love the oriental ones - what a luscious assortment - and such a neat postcard - we had a blizzard last week, seeing it really "warmed" me up!

Have a great week, MaryB

suzylucie 03/16/2007 #

ChristineMM got your squares today.Loved the map, forign langauge, metallic...oh heck, loved them all! Thanks.

gramsbuttonbox 03/16/2007 #

Sueb - I have to say - Your packet really inspired me - and I have lots of Temari books written in Japanese - - and while I can't read them, I can follow the pictures - AND they are so beautiful - but I can sure copy that beautiful script - (never even thought of that!) - and loved your cut-up books, I really had no idea what kinds of things to use - other than just "paper" lol - - (I know that doesn't make sense!)

(wondering how this works tho - when it comes time to rate our swap partners, I won't be able to rate you, will I? - -) I am almost more upset that I can't rate the no-sender - than the fact that she didn't send me anything - lol - - and it's too bad that some try to make swap-bot an unpleasant place - well, they don't have that much clout!

Swap-bot ROCKS!!!

(on deleted profiles, ratings don't show anyway......sigh)

and have a good weekend, MaryB

prettylily 03/16/2007 #

Mary, I'm delighted that you love your papers and that they are inspiring to you. You were partnered with me, so that's why you received a packet from me. You will be still be receiving paper from one of the angels, who stepped forward to replace the person that deleted the profile. If the angel doesn't reveal herself to you, I'll let you know who it was so you can thank her. About the person who deleted her profile? I'm not sure if anything will show up to rate, but if it does, make a note and mark her as a no send, deleted profile!!!! This was my first hosting, so I am just a novice. Sueb

lucyellen 03/16/2007 #

Willow Tree - Received your pretty handmade envelope with the sweet squares in it today - you certainly brightened up a snowy cold day for me! Thank you bunches - :0)

Cloverst 03/17/2007 #

Willow and linda, thank you both for the great squares you sent me they arrived this morning and have certainly brightened up my day!

paperholic 03/17/2007 #

I sent mine to medievalmayden, Sueb, Serenityrae22 and Allisza on the 16th. They are coming from Australia so I am not sure how long they will take to get to the USA.

I did find this a very hard swap - I have loads and loads of paper as you can imagine - but I didn't have a 1" paper punch, and although I tried several different ways to cut them square, they almost all turned out not to be exact - and they were the good ones! You've no idea how much paper I wasted.

I am most truly sorry , but I did the best I could. By the time I realised hand cutting was not going to work I was almost out of time to get them in the mail; no time to track down and buy a 1" punch.

brokeneyeball 03/17/2007 #

im taking mine to the post office tomorow morning (saturday)..sorry for the delay!

zanylady 03/17/2007 #

Received two of my envelopes today so Victoria from CA and Adrienne from OR....to let you know they arrived.

Marlene

macati 03/18/2007 #

to: Lucyellen, nimzay, Leenda77, Willow Tree I've already sent your paper but I'm from Europe and it may take some time to arrive. I'm sorry (specially to willow tree) for not being 1inch squares. In Europe (unless UK) we don't use inches for our metrics. I understand that you will have more work to cut them now. I never thought of that when I cut the rectangles. I just didn't want to send less than the required size, so I send more. It wasn't a bad intention. never thought that people could get angry for that. Sorry again. next time I'll follow exactly the rules of the swap. bye, manela

suzylucie 03/18/2007 #

Joan, received your paper yesterday. You sent a lot extra and extra bigger pieces which is great. I love the colors and variety of textures. Thank you.

gramsbuttonbox 03/18/2007 #

Sueb - for a first swap, this was a fabulous idea! (I am running my very first swap also, the "hand-made collage page" - the signup deadline is now past, so it won't show up in a search) - -

but yes, on deleted profiles, there is no opportunity to leave feedback - I mean, their name still shows up in the link to leave feedback, and you can type in some feedback, but when you try to Save it, you just get the "deleted profile" message - and nothing shows up....

hope that helps.... anyway, LOVED this swap - it sas so much fun!

have a good week, MaryB

WillowTree21 03/18/2007 #

I wasn't angry! I thought I said I was "Bummed"? I wasnt ever angry for what I was saying. I was trying to exspress how I so really wanted to make a quilt using one inch pieces. I cut 120 one icnh pieces, I just thougt thats what the swap was for. So sorry if anyone thought I was mad or agry, I wasn't! :)

Cloverst 03/19/2007 #

thanks lucyellen for the wonderful papers, I only wish I had thought to go that extra mile with mine. Still on a newbie learning curve. I hope you like your softie!

prettylily 03/19/2007 #

Cloverst 03/21/2007 #

Cloverst 03/23/2007 #

This by far has been the best swap I've taken part in so far. It's been great getting the papers through the door and investigating them! For your first swap I'm impressed! Everything ran as planned I take it?

user6635 03/23/2007 #

I've gotten lovely papers from Mandy H., and Isis, plus an angel-ed packet from Lucinda. I'm sure that Cloverst's will arrive any day now. :) Thank you all!

Lucinda, I wish I could leave a rating for you. If I could, I'd give you a heart. :)

digitalmaven 03/24/2007 #

I received a packet of scraps from someone in Oklahoma, but they didn't put their name on the envelope! There was a note inside with the phrase "Dreams come a size too big so we can grow into them." I'd like to leave a rating for this person, so if you could identify yourself (here or via message), I would appreciate it. :)

prettylily 03/24/2007 #

Thank you, Vikki, it was a fun swap for me as well. I thank all of the angels that stepped forward to help fill the gaps. And I thank everyone for partication and treating their partner to wonderful treats, papers and surprises. Thank you too, to all of the people that helped me steer this, my first hosting, along a steady course. Cheers, Sueb

gramsbuttonbox 03/25/2007 #

Serenity Rae = Ashley Duval - I do not know from where, but she had my name - too bad we can't leave ratings for the ones that delete their profiles...

anyway, I am SO enjoying the beautiful papers I got, thanks so much medieval mayden, Aliisza and Sueb (thought you were my angel, but you had my name, and I CAN leave you a rating now!), - this has been SUCH a fun swap - I'm really enjoying the beautiful assortments.

(Sueb, you mentioned taking them travelling, and using them in collages - what exactly will you do with them, can I ask? - make backgrounds, or something?

I saw an atc site where the creator wrote about making "strips" of lots of little papers, like this, and using them as fun additions - sounds like a cool thing to do too)

anyway, thanks so much for hosting this FUN swap! MaryB

prettylily 03/25/2007 #

Mary, What I plan to do is take several altoid tins filled with various papers, a glue stick, and paper or a journal dedicated just for this. I'll play around and do mini collages, of sorts and I won't have any mediums, paints, or other things, generally use for collage to use. I think I will also take a pair of scissors to cut shapes with (i usually tear paper, but there are two small) and a minimal assortment of pens. Maybe some other stuff and put all of this in a small cigar box pochade, that hasn't been used yet. I always carry a few pens, sketchbook and watercolor pans, even though that is not my medium. I may take some crayons. So, I will see how it turns out. I like to capture the essence of where I am. It all gets packed though, I only take on my sketchbook. So if you see someone sketching you, it could be me! :-) I'm glad you had a good time. Sueb

gramsbuttonbox 03/25/2007 #

dear angel Mandy, I received your lovely pkg - and am enjoying it so much, AND your thoughtfulness - (I can't rate you, so wanted to let you know HERE that your little papers arrived and am so grateful to the kind ones who help to make swap-bot the great place it is.)

have a wonderful week, MaryB

Cloverst 03/26/2007 #

Aliisa i'm sorry you've not received your papers from me yet. I posted them with the rest so I'm not sure why they have not gotten there yet, do you often have a noticable lime lag in post? I'm having horrible visions now of tiny 1 in paper scraps floating all over in the mail distribution centre!

WillowTree21 03/26/2007 #

Manuela, Parcel ame in today!!!! Thank you so much for my Birhday gift .. It's wonderful, I tried it on right away!!! and candy and everything just great! :)

memmu 03/26/2007 #

Marlene and Linuxwitch... I'm glad you liked the papers I sent you :)! Yes, I know... it's sooooo hard to resist signing up of these lovely swaps!

I received wonderful papers from Sueb and Gram's button box... thank you so much!!!

prettylily 03/26/2007 #

Scrap my idea of organizing the scraps in tins. Too time consuming. Gonna take them in a baggie. :-)

Cloverst 03/27/2007 #

Received from Nimzey today. Thanks for the great communication. The papers were great and did I spot some sketches in there too?!

user6635 03/30/2007 #

Cloverst, I'm sorry to say that they haven't arrived yet. I have no doubts that you send them. :)

I don't often get mail from Europe, so I couldn't say if I have a noticeable delay or not.

Cloverst 03/31/2007 #

Ok I'm sorry Aliisza, This is the first one that's gone missing for me. I guess it's quite a common thing then, post going missing. Thanks for being so understanding. :)
