Description:

Well I hope others are the same as me, put the word Kitsch or Retro in front of anything and I go all goey. I thought there was some of us after the great Pink and Kitsch swap.

I have just moved into a new home and am in the process of converting the whole downstairs into a retro theme, my Kitchen is 50's Diner-esque and living area will be 50/60/70's retro clean lines.

So I am looking for people with similar styles to participate in this swap I am setting a budget of $15/20 or £15 as exchange rate is terrible at mo. Hoping everyone will be fairly treated.

Items could be in usable form or able to be used to create for the crafter inside.

I was thinking of either thrifted (good quality), new, vintage or handmade items.

eg. salt/pepper shakers, fabrics, aprons, pictures, prints, kitchen gadgets, cushion covers, wallpaper scraps in retro prints, small dishwares, small clocks, signs, trays, trinkets, candles, etc Hope this has given ideas.

I will put a post on my Blog showng examples of ideas. innocentcharmschats.blogspot.com

Please note people should state colours they really don't care for in comments so these can be kept away from.

We are aiming for hearts here, as a fairly newbie I think its worth sharing the love.

Now for the Rules

My kitchen is more depression-era. Will that work?

innocentcharmer 05/ 1/2007 #

LOL winemakersister, that sounds like mine at the mo, we have rented house so doing what I can with the 70's brown retro tiles. I must say though I am not the orange and brown retro just to warn all. Glad to see people joining up. Kara x

maepress77 05/ 1/2007 #

sweet! this sounds fun. I'm a sucker for linens, especially 50's cloth napkins.

user7247 05/ 1/2007 #

Oh I ADORE this idea... I already have a somewhat retro feel to my kitchen and I didnt even realize it until now!!! AS for colors: please please no brown or orange... ughhh I hate both for decorating, maybe unless its a tangerine orange, which is ok. Other than that I love all colors!! I am off to the thrift stores to find goodies and ideas!

winemakerssister 05/ 1/2007 #

This will be fun. I have a description of my kitchen on my profile -- for my swap partner. Essentially, Fiestaware colors: red, cobalt blue, cadet blue, green, yellow, that sort of thing.

I'm a n00b, but I should have ratings by the time this one starts.

Please no alcohol, cigarette, or coca-cola ads, amber glass, or aprons. We have very little room in our bathrooms, so please no bathroom stuff. Other than that, I'm up for probably anything. I would love some old fiestaware as my ancestors worked in their factories when they first started manufacturing it and I'm just starting a collection. I'm a sucker for doilies and runners that are still intact and unstained. I love knitting and crochet so vintage storage cases, workbaskets, etc, would be awesome.

I am trying to change from 30s-40s art deco to mid century 50s-60s. I love clean simple lines. Looking for creative ways to dress up my bathroom. Looking for a tapestry or fabric to create a piece of art for my fireplace mantel. I love the 60's blues, browns and lime greens. You know the crafter's blue. LOL I collect Jadite, mid century craft books, vintage Better Homes and gardens books (the kind in binders). I colelct vintage and vintage inspired fabric. I've always loved the 50s but am getting into 60's modern. :D I am looking for this one kitchy thing if you could keep an eye out, it is a green ceramic from with a big mouth that holds the kitchen sponge. My grandma had one and I want one. :D Feel free to email me for ideas amy@sewcialbutterfly.com. Sorry for the long post. I am just soooo excited.

user4960 05/ 1/2007 #

*sorry for a repost but wanted to correct a typo -no way to edit my post-

I am looking for this one kitchy thing if you could keep an eye out, it is a green ceramic FROG with a big mouth that holds the kitchen sponge.

maepress77 05/ 2/2007 #

Oh yeah, just wanted to add... please no 70'S !! (And I too collect jadeite, but I realize that's very heavy)

innocentcharmer 05/ 2/2007 #

sewcialbutterfly, its so weird those frogs use to be the equivlant to $2 we had loads when I was a kid, they were a really popular item in the UK, they did them in loads of colours. Even if we are not matched I am sure I will be able to find one for you. Kara x

Glad so many people are liking this swap

maepress77 05/15/2007 #

I'm going to put up a mosaic on my flickr account today of some neat-o stuff. Also, you can look at my faves or my "vintage" set, if you're curious! I've been waiting to go to my favorite vintage store until I got my partner- can't wait!

Here's a look into my kitchen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/winemakerssister/sets/72157600217128157/ And this is how I'm planning to decorate my studio: http://www.flickr.com/photos/winemakerssister/499363534/in/set-72157600217485972/

robyn 05/15/2007 #

I am getting ready to leave town, but here is a link to a set on flickr of some of my vintage finds. I will try to add more photos when I come back next week. http://www.flickr.com/photos/robynwade/sets/72157600217377287/

My kitchen and dining room are mainly decorated in red, orange and yellow and I have tons of pinups, tiki, and big eyed art so those are always safe bets with me. I have a special love of snack sets.

user7535 05/15/2007 #

We are doing renovations and changing up the decor of the house right now, so photos... uhh... probably not going to happen.

I will say this, though, in addition to what I wrote about above: We don't need kitchen stuff or bathroom stuff. (With the renovation, I'm losing a lot of wall space in the kitchen and counter space is already at a premium.) Milk glass vases or candy dishes that I could use to hold collections or display yarn would be AWESOME. An old botany book that I could salvedge prints from to frame and hang would make me infinitely happy. Or, indeed, just old prints from books that are sold loose up until the 1950's or so of flowers or plants or floral arrangements. (I have quite a few already, but I'd like more so I can make some cohesive groupings) Old schoolroom decor, like signs, pencil cups, rule lists, etc would be great. We homeschool and the addition is going to be our dining/school room.

innocentcharmer 05/16/2007 #

Thanks for people for getting this all done, I promise to my partner to have piccy's on by tonight so don't panic. Kara xxxx

innocentcharmer 05/16/2007 #

Ok thought I would give heads up, I could take piccy of kitchen but hubby halfway through decorating (as a surprise) in there its 50's dinersque the walls are turquoise with accesories is pale blue, pink, lemon, i like anything diner no red though love cupcakes as well, so anything cupcakes is cool. The living room/dining area is going to be of a 70's style, not so drastic buying the white table as on my flickr, i am pretty sure I am going colour scheme of cream/white with mossy green lightish and duck egg blue, browns. I will be pleased for anything in there as well as we have nothing, I have tried puting some piccy's on my flickr that should help. My craft room, is pink and kitsch betty boop, cupcakes etc. Thanks again for all joining this swap Kara x http://www.flickr.com/photos/innocentcharms/

user7247 05/16/2007 #

Oh I wish I could take a picture of my house right now... lol but all you would see were bare walls since we are in the process of moving! I have to clean house for the realtor, but later today I try to find pictures of decors that I am aiming for! :0)

user7247 05/16/2007 #

Robyn- I had to laugh when looking at your photos because I have some of the EXACT same pinups you do!!! Only they are/were in my bathroom!!!

anntabor 05/16/2007 #

I collect egg cups, especially ones of goofy little people. Love vintage kitchenware, juice jars, jam jars, other containers, creamers, sugar bowls, pitchers jello molds, pyrex, depression glass, milk glass, enamelware. Vintage anything! I'm planning a cheerful kitchen in orange, red and yellow.

user7247 05/16/2007 #

Ok, so this was a gerat excuse to make a flickr account, so while its not pictures of my bared wall house, these are some things I adore!!!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/elea_creativechaos/

I also am always on the look out for vitange cookbooks!

user7751 05/17/2007 #

user7751 05/17/2007 #

i forgot to add that my family room has cowboy accents. so if you come across 50's cowboy kitsch, i am all over that, too.

innocentcharmer 05/20/2007 #

maepress77 05/21/2007 #

I wanted to add also, since I've noticed a lot of people talking about color... I am not particular- I love all colors. The only things I'm really never that interested in are black and white things- and I probably don't need any more avacado green, although I love it :)
