Description:

I am working on a scrap quilt of nine-patches and I set myself the lofty goal of "No Two Blocks the Same!"
Yeah. I'm not going to meet that goal with my current stash. I have enough fabric, just not enough -different-fabrics. I don't want to go out and buy 1/8 or 1/4 yards because that's way more fabric than I need, and would increase my stash rather than reduce it!

We will swap stash that has been pre-cut in some way for easy creation of six-inch nine patch blocks (or whatever you might want to use it for!) This includes: ~ Jelly rolls or pieces of jelly rolls (strips of fabric 2.5" wide) ~ charm squares (5" x 5" squares) ~ 2.5" squares ~square/rectangular cuts in multiples of 2.5" (5" x 2.5", 5" x 7.5", 10" x 12.5", etc)

--Minimum requirements-- Enough fabric strips/squares to make 5 unique 2-color blocks. You will send to two partners. I have made a relatively short timeline for sending because you should not have to shop! It should all come from your stash! The actual amount of fabric is very light, so it should not cost very much at all to send. (Editing to mention that the various fabrics do not need to coordinate with one another; the person you send them to will be able to mix and match them with their own stash!)

Math: Nine 2.5" squares of one fabric is enough for half of two blocks... so in theory you could send 9 squares of 5 different fabrics. A charm square does half a block, and five 2.5" squares or a 12.5" strip of jelly roll would do the other half of the block. Does that all make sense? I'm good at words but not at math, so talking about math is hit-or-miss for me! :P

100% quilting cottons only please. No restrictions on "quilt shop quality only" because not everyone has access to/budget for a quilt shop. Joann's makes perfectly reasonable fabric. I get most of my fabric at my local surplus and salvage store! The requirement is: if you were going to use it in your own quilt, then it's ok in mine. Please use care in your cutting; no one expects you to be able to cut your fabric with a laser, but do take your time.

Please do not send 45 2.5" squares of all different fabrics, unless your partner specifies they would like this. Please also do not send other cuts of fabric --you might send a 7.5" or 10" square which your partner could cut squares from with no waste, but please do not send a three inch strip, for example.

You may list preferences for colors or types of cuts (strips, charms, 2.5" squares) in the comments section below, but there is no requirement for your partner to follow it. They are preferences, not requirements. Please no novelties or solids unless your partner requests.

Please rate your partner according to the requirements: Enough fabric to create 5 distinct 6" nine-patch blocks with no waste.

This is the first swap I have coordinated, so please please please ask questions and tell me what to add here! I am so looking forward to adding some new colors to the quilt I am making, and I hope you are to. I think it would be simplest to send 5 different strips of 12.5"X2.5" and 5 different strips of 10"X2.5"

But feel free to send what you want :)

It bothers me that you have no profile, this would be helpful since you are so new here and only have a few swaps completed. Thank you.

I forgot to add that this sounds like a wonderful swap!

OH MY GOD my profile is gone! crying I would never have known if you hadn't mentioned it, warlordswife, thanks. I have no idea what happened :( I had quite an extensive profile that I will have to sit down and think about.

This is too funny you are having this swap! I too am doing Amanda Jeans quilt along and after cutting realized, I DONT have enough scraps of different variety! It was even hard for me to believe. So I would love 2.5 by 2.5 squares. Okay to have up to 8 squares of the same fabric, as I am doing the pattern with 4 the same and 5 the same for each square. I am going to try to get some of my completed squares on my blog so you can see what "style" I am going with. Thanks for setting this up!

This looks great. I'll join if I get a package ready before -- my new pledge. Then I can swap things out to match my partner's requests if possible. I cut up all my leftover fabric that's smaller than 7" x 12" into strips (1st choice) or squares or rectangles, and keep it in boxes sorted by size. It took me a long time to get that organized, but it really helps with all those little bits.

so my preferences are first and foremost, no blue (my mother's entire quilt will have no blue in it!). I am looking for softer, lighter or medium colors (no darks or acid brights). I have no preference of the type of cut (charms, 2.5" squares, strips, etc.)

so... this is the first swap of any kind I've participated in. Do I need to post my preferences in a comment? Should I post a comment on the flickr discussion thread?

I'm doing twins so I definitely need 9 squares of each fabric. My color scheme is blue and yellow/tan (with a touch of pink/red). Any blues and yellows will work, but I'm leaning towards more vintage look fabrics. I'd love flowers and hearts, if possible. No novelty or solids, please. Any type of cut will work for me.

I'm just learning to quilt...this just might be a good way to get some different fabby pieces to practice with..... I do have some fat quarters that I can cut into the required sizes....
