This swap is based on the amazing book, Hungry Planet: What the World Eats, by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio. The authors traveled around the world, photographing families with a week's worth of groceries. Each family portrait gave insight into the effects of culture, economic status and globalization on the world's food choices. You can read more about the book in this NPR story. In this swap, we'll each create our own miniature version of a food portrait. We'll photograph everything we eat in one day - so a photo of breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks. Unlike the photos in the book, these photos can be of individual meals rather than one portrait. And, you don't need to appear in the photos...unless you want to! Print the photos (on glossy paper if you have it), and on the back of each include some information about the meal or food it contains. Include recipes, where available. Talk about why you chose this particular food. Is it something you eat every day? Or was it a special occasion? Maybe include a little history about the food if it's something that's unique to your city or country. If you get an international partner, including some overseas food labels or packages might be fun. I'm really excited to see these photos! This is an international swap :D If you don't have a feedback score yet, please email before signing up. |
