Description:

I'm sorry not everyone can join the swap due to the rules, but this version is what I think is the best for a language related swap,so please check the list below and do not join for languages that have already been listed!Thank you!

I love learning foreign languages and I enjoy writing a few words in their languages when I send a card or letter to someone from another country. So I thought there might be more people like me around here!

In this swap you will send an e-mail to your 5 partners teaching them 15 words/phrases (e.g. hello, how are you?,bye, happy birthday...) in a language different from English. It could be your mother tongue or another language you speak well enough. This doesn't have to be only one person from per country, but only one person who speaks per language. So if you wanna join please list the language you'll take below.

Newbies are welcome. The others should have 4.8 rating or higher.

I hope this will be a fun and useful swap! :)

SO FAR WE HAVE

Turkish Arabic Spanish Portuguese Russian Japanese Italian Romanian German Hindi Hungarian Latin Estonian Armenian Dutch Afrikaans Bavarian Serbian Finnish Mandarin Filipino Welsh

Please don't forget to write which language you'll take in the comment section!!!

EDIT: I have changed number of partners from 5 to 10.Hope this is ok for everyone! ;)

melodia 01/ 4/2011 #

@mariee and @PoKe let's see if there will be anyone else who wants to teach Spanish or Portuguese.I think we can arrange this in a way we'll have maximum number of participants ;)

I've just read the email @melodia sent and I do have a question. I can speak French, German and Spanish because I've learned them at school (Latin included), so is it possibile to list if we already know a language? Uhm, I know this is kinda late to ask this but I was wondering if we can get to be paired so that we expect to learn 15 phrases written in a language that we really don't know a word of? Or maybe, to make it easier, we could include slang phrases, the ones that teachers will never teach you in school? That would be interesting and would solve "my" problem (I don't wanna sound selfish. I've attended a high school focused on foreign languages, it's not my fault :P LOL)

What do you mean by '.This doesn't have to be only one person from per country, but only one person who speaks per language' ? I would join if this was clearer.

Ogma 01/ 5/2011 #

@AdorablePenguin Swap-bot chooses partners (I don't think the host or hostess has any say over who gets paired with whom). But we're getting 10 partners so you should get some cool languages you don't know. If I get you, I'll try to put some slang in there for you. ;-)

@jenthewen I think she means that, unlike some currency or postcard swaps, you can sign up even if you're in the same country as another participant. Some swaps only sign up one person per country and if that country is taken, you can't sign up. She's saying that only one language per participant is allowed in this swap.

melodia 01/ 6/2011 #

@ogma thank you so much for explaining! :)))

Yea,it's possible to receive e-mails in languages you already know.I've tried to reduce this risk by including only one teacher for each language, but I think as we'll have 10 partners now it can be tolarated ;)

And yes, this is what I mean by only one person who speaks per language.Of course there are people who speaks more than one langauge, but I wanted to say each language would be taken by one participant.I thought it was clear but maybe I should have explained it ;)

By the way unfortunately our French had to drop from the swap so French is open again!

anniina 01/ 6/2011 #

I'll teach Finnish :)

AdorablePenguin 01/ 6/2011 #

Thanks girls, I didn't know it was Swap-bot since I haven't hosted a swap yet :) It's fine with me ^_^

memtree 01/ 7/2011 #

mine will be chinese mandarin thanks :)

kheidedios 01/ 7/2011 #

Filipino here. This is fun.. Maybe we can have 5 or more common phrases to translate and the rest are words of our choice. just a suggestion. ;p

melodia 01/ 7/2011 #

@kheidedios what phrases you will teach is up to you but try to include some expressions used in daily life mostly like the ones mentioned in the swap description ;)

ariela101 01/ 7/2011 #

I m from Israel so I know Hebrew. Im a newbie and its my first swip :)

leecytx 01/ 7/2011 #

Does anyone need someone to teach... English?? LOL! I will do that if needed, but looks like everyone already speaks English!

Xandoz 01/ 7/2011 #

May I suggest that our "teachers" also include how to pronounce the phrases, especially if the letters for that particular language don't sound the same as in English.

For example, the name "Jorge" is spanish (I think). It looks like it would be pronounced like the english "george", but is actually pronounced "Hor-hey"

Kittyfuzz 01/ 7/2011 #

I'll happily teach people some Welsh :-)

melodia 01/ 8/2011 #

@xandoz ive just seen your comment! i did include pronunciation in my e-mail,maybe the others have done that as well ;)

Muna 01/ 8/2011 #

why did you change the partners to 10??

melodia 01/ 8/2011 #

i thought it would be nice to learn 5 more languages as we have enough participants.i asked you about increasing number of partners in the first e-mail i sent - you actually didn't object this when you wrote me back - i also mentioned it in the swap description so that everyone notices.

Muna 01/ 9/2011 #
