About Me

Hello I'm sillysusie. I love this site so much. I think that swap-bot is a great source of happiness. Instead of mail just being bills we get to share the little things we do like crafting and art which brings joy to the recipient.

My word for 2024 is faith. May it prove to be a source of reflection and helpful in all areas of my life.

It is 2023. Well I have several groups where you chose a word to meditate on. Last year my word was happiness, the year before fun and this year I selected love. I am refrencing the love between our fellow man, not romantic love but to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

It's 2022 Happy New Year to everyone! I have some interesting stuff I would like to share. I am currently following the Margarette Miller 2022 weekly collage prompts challenge, and I'm having a blast. I would encourage anyone who loves collage to follow along. Next I love love love Teesha Moore. She is a mixed media artist, you can see her work on Pintrest, (another great source for inspiration). I am currently enthralled with YouTube videos. I follow Dyan Waverly, Twisted Art Designs, Karen Campbell, Jane Davenport, Niamh Baly, Karen Burchill and Vicky Papaioannou, actually these are just a few of my latest go too's. There is so much on Youtube. I felt it would be great to share our favorite artist, current trends and what's happening in art in our profile. I will surely be adding more in the days and weeks to come. I hope these suggestions are helpful to others.

Finally it's 2021 so let's have fun!

2020 was horrible and unexpected for most of us. Who would of thought a world wide pandemic. I'm so very sorry for those who have lost someone or have suffered.

Well everyone has a story and here is mine. In December 2019 I was having intense pain in my groin and doctors discovered a femoral hernia that needed emergency surgery. While performing presurgical testing I kept having abnormal EKGs. After extensive testing they determined I had a major heart attack and the bottom third of my heart was not working. They back tracked my health and said it occurred when my emotional support dog/companion died. So 2020 began and ended with me being hospitalized. First the angioplasty, then a spinal proceedure followed by femoral hernia surgery, then 3 heart stents and ended with me having surgery to implant a defibrillator /pacemaker device all during the pandemic. Wow right, life is sure different, so very very different. It has taken me awhile to adjust but I think I got this now. Sometimes however I have bad days hopefully they won't interfere with swaps. The bottom line is I am still silly, I think more than ever. I have a new appreciation for life. Most days I chase a muse, I love to play, have fun and just be happy. I pray daily and love God

My hobbies include reading, crafting, gardening, nature and searching for treasure. I love everything old and I LOVE TO COLLECT: art, books, boxes, perfume bottles, ephemera, tins, antique textiles and so much crap as my husband calls it, that I am often referred to as a pack rat.

My interest are metaphysics, the paranormal, comparative religion, reincarnation and alternative medicine. I'm a rockhound, but I'm always picking up something pieces of wood, pennies whatever catches my eye. I love playing in the dirt. My nails are always breaking and have dirt under them, no manicures on these hands.

I use arts and crafts as a form of personal therapy and my pets are my therapist. They are also my best friends. In the future, one day, I would love to have an animal rescue. I also dream of a greenhouse.

I am very much a recluse, who prefers the company of animals to most adults. This is because I have been disappointed by to many people in life. I know what I like and I am not interested in what others think or do as long as they don't effect me.

synopsis

I believe life should be enjoyed. All the little things are special if we allow them to be.

I seem to have a Peter Pan complex, as I refuse to grow up.

I love bright colors (actually all colors), loud music, animals, nature, crafting/ making things, games and having fun.

I'm also a bit of a brat and a rebel. I am me and make no excuses for what / who I am.

Favorite Music

I love music, all music. My favorite group/band is Hot Tuna, but the 1970s California bands like the Grateful Dead, yeas I'm a Deadhead (NRPS, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Janis Joplin, etc all) are awesome. I also love the blues Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, James Cotton, Buddy Guy to name a few. Then I enjoy jazz John Coltrane/ Thelonious Monk type jazz, especially on Sunday mornings. And light classical like Chopin, ( Jean Pierre Rampal's a favorite performer) is perfect when I'm stressed. So pretty much everything, music is love.

Favorite Movies

I think Disney classic are timeless. For more adult type movies, the old black and white films,(B_movies) are my choice, nothing highbrow just enjoyable stuff like the Thin Man series with William Powell.

Favorite Crafts

I started using scissors and glue when I was barely 4 and never stopped. I don't have a favorite craft I love them all. I have experience crafting most everything including ceramics/ pottery, wood, metal, fused glass, mixed media, collage, paper crafts, copper enameling, embroidery and the list goes on. My current favorites are casting glass, altered art, folk art, art journaling, primitive/folk dolls and ATC's .

Favorite Books

I love books, reading them and collecting them. I have hundreds of books. My favorites are children's book's. However I also have in my library an extensive collection of non-fiction from cookbooks, gardening, crafting, religion and philosophy to childhood education. So please unless it is a book I'm specifically looking for, don't think of me, send them elsewhere.

A favorite book I recommend "Gateway to Happiness " by Zelig Pliskin it is definitely worth your time to read.

WISH LIST

What I would really love to receive are ATC's or a pretty miscellaneous playing card. I'm blessed and don't need a thing good wishes and vibes are always welcome.

I want people to be happy, life is short, so if I can make someone happy I do. With that said swappers who have a detailed profile make it easier to know about them and increase the possibility that I might be able to make their day by having something they need or want and I'm thrilled to be able to share it.

Just a note.....

I am very technologically challenged and think old fashioned ways (like the post office) are great. So if I email you, ask stupid questions, re-post, or don't upload images that is why. I hope everyone understands my lack of sophistication. I will always acknowledge receiving and rating, that you can be sure.

  • Please remember what goes around comes around.

**Don't take this all so seriously or stress yourself life is short.

*** I am very understanding and realize we are all not great artist. So I rate and comment with kindness.

**** I made the above statement as some swaps make it difficult to express/ display true artistic abilities. I enjoy swapping and the challenges however I feel swap snobs are negative and have bad energy. If a card or swap doesn't meet your expectations please be kind, sometimes we older people have off days. We might not be feeling well, who knows the unexpected circumstances we each face. The wheel goes around very quickly.

I started hosting swaps so I will always Angel any swap not sent and I am now forced to make a FLAKERS list.

Comment: Yay Susan! Your ghosts finally arrived today (10/20!) It came in a USPS "we care" envelope. Your envelope was ripped but nothing seemed to have fallen out. Unfortunately, the ghost and house broke in half BUT nothing a little E6000 can't fix! They are both so adorable--uh, I mean SCARY! :-) Thank you so much!! I love them!

Comment: Susie, I received your the Christmas Journal you created and I absolutely love it!! The cover is so festive and sparkly and I love the snowy white that looks like fresh fallen snow. Your pages have so many beautiful vintage images and you included lots of pockets and tuck places with little treasures inside. I really enjoyed the variety of different techniques you used and the textures you included, especially the laces and ribbons! I can't wait to try the recipes, especially the peppermint layer cake with the m&m trees! You left me plenty of writing space for card lists, gift ideas, and memory notes. Thank you for a beautiful swap!!!
Response: I am so happy you like it. I wanted it to be cool empty but decorated it with lots of things included for you to have plenty of stuff/ideas to add to your pages as well. Thanks again for joining.
