Hi,
here are my pictures for the APDG ~ Hobbit Day swap,
I loved all of the movies. I was totally surprised as I hadn't realised what great stories they were. I had heard of the books and for some reason I thought they where about something totally different so had never read them.
I loved Orlando Bloom as Leggalis so had to include him
My hubby and I went to New Zealand for our 25th wedding anniversary and we visited the film set
Hobbiton. If you ever get a chance you really must go. It is truly beautiful. These are a few of the photos I took. I hope you like them

Looking across Bywater Pool to Hobbiton
This is inside The Green Dragon where we actually had a lovely cider.
One of the Hobbit homes. They are all diffent, sadly mostly only facades. The insides where filmed at the studio.
I started from the movies, I was a teenager, and I was in love with Frodo
Then I started to read The Hobbits, and I truly found it awesome. I liked the adventure feeling!
I started wanting to live in those tiny house:
And this is my favourite quote:
“Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We'll wander back and home to bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!â€
In 1971 I discovered The Hobbit shortly after I finished Watership Down. (My sister had recommended both books.) I will forever link the two in my mind even though Watership was written in 1970 and The Hobbit was an old book dating from 1937.
In 1977 Rankin/Bass produced an animated Hobbit for TV. The characters look nothing like the live action characters of the 2012-2014 films.
The only thing they seem to have in common is all that hair.
I still have this 2 page layout I found in TV guide safely tucked it in my copy of The Hobbit.
Peter Jackson's films are lavish and sprawling with characters that have depth beyond the book at times. (I just wish he hadn't had to make 3 movies out of it when 2 would have worked.)
I managed to read all of Tolkien's books at least once. And I have seen all of the movies at least once. But what I think I loved the most about them all was the Shire architecture. I want a house in the hillside.
I was first introduced to The Hobbit when I was in my early 20s in book form. And my imagination was immediately captured! I went on to read the Lord of the Rings with great excitement - five different times in all. And I can't even begin to say how many times I've seen the movies. Rivendell still remains one of my favorite places of all time. (I just know that it exists somewhere!)
Tolkien's drawing of Rivendell, an Elven outpost in Middle-earth:
Smaug the Dragon ("a most specially greedy, strong and wicked worm") to Bilbo, The Hobbit:
JRR Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings, at Oxford:
